Stoke vs West Ham
High flyers West Ham travel to the Britannia looking to continue their fine run of form.
Stoke’s games this year have not seen many goals. Almost 70% of their opening 9 games have seen under 2.5 goals occur. Today they face a West Ham side with a very different start – 78% of West Ham’s games have seen over 2.5 goals occur! This sets up what should be an interesting encounter! (A part of me worries of a dull 0-0 draw)
Stoke have had a stuttering opening 9 games, not managing to cobble together any real form and are yet to win 2 games in a row. Their last 2 home games have been promising – with a 1-0 win over Newcastle & 2-1 win against Swansea. They will be looking to build upon this home form and make the Britannia the fortress it once was.
West Ham seem invigorated this season, Sakho and Valencia are in scintillating form and the Hammers have won their last 3 on the bounce (Sakho is 50/50 for this game as this piece is being written). An interesting stat is that they have managed to score at least 1 goal in each of their last 8 games, although have conceded in every game away so far – they have only managed 1 clean sheet all season (at home to QPR). They no doubt possess enough firepower up front to break down the Stoke defence.
Expecting West Ham’s winning run to end at the Britannia, draw no bet for Stoke at 3/4 looks a good price, but sticking with both sides to find the back of the net.
Prediction – Stoke 2-1 West Ham
The Pick – Both teams to score – 5/6 – 1.83
Worth a flutter – Stoke win & BTTS – 5/1
Leicester vs West Brom
The stats and figures speak for themselves with today’s game at the King Power Stadium.
West Brom come into the game on a good run of form, losing just 1 of their last 5 games (away at Liverpool). Even better for the Baggies is their goalscoring; with an impressive 10 goals in their last 5, including 2 against Utd and Crystal Palace. Their young star striker Berahino continues his fantastic scoring record, and the likes of Sessegnon and Brunt offer quality and threats in the final third. Against a weak Leicester defence, they should be able to bag at least a goal on Saturday – it may just be their defence that will result in them not getting all 3 points.
The hosts Leicester are unbeaten at home thus far, although have conceded a worrying number of goals – 8 in the 4 games played. Most recently they played out a 2-2 draw with Burnley, a side not associated with scoring many goals. Their home form has been their bright light so far this year, keeping Utd, Arsenal and Everton at bay to pick up valuable points. They have both scored and conceded in every home game so far, and I’m expecting this to continue. Up top they have real options, Vardy and Ulloa have quality but will be keen to get back to scoring ways after somewhat of a drought, and today’s game is a great opportunity for them to get their names on the scoresheet.
It’s a tough game to call on who will be winner, but both teams to score looks likely and still offers a decent price.
Prediction – Leicester 1-1 West Brom
The Pick – Both teams to score – 8/11 – 1.73
Worth a flutter – The draw – 5/2
